Family Respite Services believes that respite strengthens families. We work with families to develop flexible respite services. Respite care looks different in each family. Some families choose to have a respite provider care for their child in their home, while others want a time when their child is involved in activities in the community. Some families find that respite provided out of home best suits their needs. FRS, in consultation with families has developed a number of options for providing respite. While we wish that we had unlimited resources to meet family needs, unfortunately, we are limited by the funding that we receive. Our first priority is for one of our Family Coordinators to meet with each family to talk about their needs, their vision and what kind of support would be most helpful. From there we develop a working plan together. Sometimes families use financial resources they receive through programs such as Special Services at Home, Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities, Enhanced Respite or Autism Spectrum Disorder to pay for respite time that they develop with Family Respite Services. FRS has also been successful in fundraising and receiving grants to support some special respite programs such as the Our Time program and Fun Fridays.
