Our Time Program

The Our Time program features an opportunity for children with special needs to attend a community centre operated by the municipal parks and recreation department.  The children participate in a "day camp" style program on Saturday afternoons.  Parents pay a registration fee to the municipality.  FRS operates these programs in partnership with the Parks and Recreation departments in Windsor and Leamington.  The children have fun in a supervised setting while their parents have a period of respite.

The Parks and Recreation departments operate the programs and FRS provides staff to support the children so that they can participate in the activities.  The majority of the costs of providing the support staff is currently funded by special grants and fundraising money.

Children with special needs and their siblings and children from the community attend, offering an inclusive setting.  Family Respite Services gives priority to families who have few other supports and families who have limited income for this program.

This program is offered at three community centres:

  • College Ave. Community Centre
  • Forest Glade Community Centre
  • Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex

In the summer, FRS provides staffing support at Forest Glade and College Ave. day camp programs to assist children with special needs to participate. This is an extension of the Our Time Program.

Access to these programs is through FRS, as a part of an overall respite plan.
